Pate Pate

- Why Miss B chose this dance?
I really like the song Pate Pate. Also this dance seemed like an easy one to copy and take moves from for Room 15 to use as inspiration for our Fiafia performance.

- What we like about this dance?
We like the part when the boys get into the triangle and have a solo part. Also that the girls have different dance movements from the boys. We like the main guy who has confidence and isn't shy with his dance moves.
- What is good about this dance?
Everybody stays in time and they have practised it well. They work as a team and look like they are having lots of fun. They also have cool costumes.
- What could be improved about this dance?
Sometimes when they move to different places it looks messy.
- What we think the story behind this dance could be?
A Rarotongan chief was in charge of one country. Two tribes formed after a fight so this split the country. After they reunited and sorted their differences they had a big celebration and danced together as one.

Some Healthy Family Recipes

From the recipes Mrs Kumar gave our class these are some that we could try at home to eat a little bit healthier.

Health Talk with Mrs Kumar

We just had a health talk from Ella Kumar.  She taught us some things about making sensible choices for ourselves and our family.

Some of the things we learnt were:

  • Only children under 2 should be drinking dark blue milk.  The rest of the family should drink light blue as it has less fat and the same amount of calcium.
  • Fizzy drinks and packet drinks contain mostly sugar.  We should not add sugar to our diet because it is already hidden in things like bread.
  • Raro packet juice contains 18 teaspoons of pure sugar.
  • Salt makes you thirsty and makes you hold onto water.  It dehydrates your body.
  • Sugar also rots your teeth so drinking through a straw can help.
  • Powerade is only meant for top athletes who need to replace sugar and energy quickly - children our age do not need it after one cross country run.
The photos below show some key information about what we learnt.

DISCUSSION - write in the comments one simple change that you and your family are going to make.
