PB4L Safe and Sensible Games Guide
This week our PB4L lesson was playing safely and sensibly. We decided that one of the reasons why games at playtime and lunchtime sometimes cause problems is because some kids don't know the rules! We created this guide to safe and sensible games. We hope it is helpful!
Leave us a comment if you and your friends try one of these games at lunchtime or playtime :)
I'm Little But a Great Winner!
We were inspired to write by this video clip of a cute little squirrel and a hungry eagle! Watch to find out what happens ... but be prepared to grip the edge of your seat!
Ben wrote an excellent response to this video clip! He wrote from the perspective of the squirrel, recounting the tough day he had!
Ben wrote an excellent response to this video clip! He wrote from the perspective of the squirrel, recounting the tough day he had!
It began like any other day. The leaves were swaying down
The sunshine lit up the forest which is my home. I was looking around for a tasty
nut. Well lucky for me that I found one. That day
I was hanging on a tree eating my big tasty nut. Then
I sensed danger. I looked around, when I
saw it was the evil hideous eagle staring straight at me! I tried to hide
but he caught me. So the race was on. I ran as fast as
I could . I ran up a tree I jumped on branches , then when I
saw a big gap I was thinking in my head , “can I
make it?” I didn't know what to do so I just jumped.
I closed my eye’s then I opened them I said to my
self, “am I in heaven?” Then when I thought I saw an angel
with wings came flying down to me I said take me to heaven
and then when I looked properly with my little eye’s it was the evil
hideous eagle flying toward’s me again! So, I got up, ran
all the way to my my nest I was safe... but not for long . Then The ugly bird
was waiting outside for me to come out he got too tired
waiting for me so he came to my nest and started
shaking my nest he shook it until i came out! So I fell
out of my nest. I landed on the leaves on the ground. I got back up .
Then when I remembered what my dad said to me when I was little,
“Son, don't give up, don't let anything stop you”. So I persevered
and started running and running until I found a hole in a tree I ran all the way
up the tree and jumped in the hole the bird tried to get in but he was too fat
so from now I call him fatty .

The Buzz on Bees
Bees! Ok so we know they make honey (yum!) and can give us the odd sting (ouch!) but bees are actually really really important! Did you know they are responsible for pollinating one third of the food we eat! So why are bees so important and what can we do to help? This week Room 14 are going to be bee detectives and get the word out about why bees are so important for us humans! It is going to be unBEEElievable!

Let the collaboration begin!
Wow! What an awesome morning we had!
The digital classes from Hay Park school came to visit us to begin work on some collaborative learning projects. The great thing about these projects is that we came up with what we wanted to learn more about! We found people who were interested in the same things and began thinking up questions. Watch this space for more about our projects ...

Tongan Language Week 2014
Malo!
The theme for Tongan language week is: Fakakoloa ‘o Aotearoa ‘aki ‘etau Lea mo e Hiva Faka-tonga which means Enriching Aotearoa with Tongan Language and Music.
What are you going to do to celebrate Tongan language week? I know that I am going to learn as much Tongan language as I can from the awesome Tongan students in Room 14! Who is up for the challenge to teach me?!
Tongan language week also got me thinking about the trip that the teachers took to Tonga a few years ago! We were treated to lot's of singing and dancing when we visited schools. Here is a photo collage I made showing a few good memories from the trip. The little girl in the top right corners name was Fa. I helped her to write a story and she was really happy! I hope that she is still doing well with her learning :)

Peace like mine
It's Peace Week and we decided to send these postcards to the United Nations. This was to show our support for peace in Gaza especially for the children. We are lucky to live in New Zealand which is a peaceful place where we can be free. We wish that children all around the world can be free and live in peace like we do. Here are some of the boys rugby team who played at the zones on Tuesday. It is hard to imagine that some children in the world do not have these freedoms.

Origami Morning
Today we worked with our buddy class Room 1 to learn how to fold some origami! We learnt from our sensei (teacher) how to make a sailing boat and a cute little fox! Mrs Moore knows lot's of Japanese and she taught us some new words and a little bit about the culture. She looked beautiful in her kimono too.

Interviewing the Sports Stars!
This week we did some research about our favourite Commonwealth games sports stars. Here is an interview that the fabulous Emalata and Ivorn did about Maria Tutaia. She even came in to answer our questions! LOL just joking! We had fun pretending to be her as we acted out the interview!

Problem Solving in Mathematics!
Today we tackled this problem during Maths! It was not as easy as we first thought! We worked together in our problem solving teams, sharing our thinking and justifying our answers.
We got there in the end! Hooray! :)
What did you learn when you were solving this problem?
